Hitch-hiking

Here begins our FIRST experience with hitchhiking. The moment when we arrived at the gas station Kuba came to the first man we saw and asked if he's going to Seged. He was not going - he was going to Romania, but he said he could take us and leave us at the first gas station near Seged. We were impressed that so quickly we were able to find something and that our driver spoke very good English (Gabor wrote us necessary phrases in Hungarian and we had phrasebook).

When he opened the trunk Kuba, of course, had to make a joke and said that he thought that the dead body will be there. Zsolt - our driver said he doesn't have dead body yet ... He worked for a company that sells computer components. He said that they have customers in Tczew and he was himself in Poznan as a student. We had a good talk and he even bought bottle of water for us.

He dropped us off at the station not far from Seged about 30 km. I went to the bathroom there- when I went back I saw Kuba with some people. They were Czechs going to Romania, but they offered a ride to Seged. We talked in Czech-Polish. They gave us a beer, śliwowica (plum brandy), they offered us sausage. They were from the same company and it was their trip to the mountains. Kuba asked several times if they go by the Seged. We were a little drunk, but cheerful and positive about everything.

When we passed exit to Seged Kuba asked again if they stop in Seged and they nodded. Finally, when they realized that probably they are far away from Seged they dropped us in a small village Apatfalva near the border with Romania. We went to the restaurant to ask locals for directions. The daughter of the owner spoke English. It turned out that there is a bus going to Szeged. We decided that we will go by bus. We drank tea and talked with Dorina. She lived seven years in Spain, and now lives in Costa Rica! She also traveled in Mexico and Venezuela.

We sat there, we were together in our thoughts with Dorina feeding monkeys in Costa Rica, almost got to Romania, still felt a delicious taste of brandy and heard laughter Czechs. A lot of excitement for a short day.
